Around The House: The Little Things

Micah and Hubby putting up the tree
Sorry so blurry. They were working sooo fast lol
Miss. Corrin aka Tree Construction Foreman

Original price at the store. Now cut in half!

Inspecting the Build
The kids decorated the tree together :)

I usually dont speak about Christianity or my faith on this blog but I really wanted to share:
I asked my son about 2 weeks ago what he would like for Christmas. Since his answers always change I figured I would ask him a little closer to the holiday so that I could get whatever his most recent request is.

Well I asked him what he wanted and his response....A Christmas Tree. Yup thats what he asked for. Honestly, I wasnt sure we would be getting a tree this year since, as some of you know I was laid off at the end of October.  Paying $30+ for a tree wasnt my idea of a well spent dollar so I was going to perhaps craft a tree or maybe decorating one outside. I even thought maybe I could find a fresh cut tree at a reduced price a couple days before Christmas. Anywho, that never happened.

My heart hurt. I didnt want my son to miss out on something as simple as a tree. What was I to do???? I PRAYED and left it to God :)

I went to a thrift store a few days after the tree conversation with my son. The first thing the store owner said to me: "Im sure you have all of your christmas decor covered but if you need anything its all 50% off." I almost fainted!!!! I was able to pick up the tree above(including stand and storage bag) for $12.50.

The decorations: Lights(.35), ornaments(.20 per pack) and garland(.15) were purchased at my local Dirt Cheap store @ 90% off. The chains link garland was made by Micah and myself out of construction paper :)

I know this is a much longer post than usual but I felt I needed to get that out. So thankful to God for his providence. A tree may not be a big deal to most but my son wanted one and God honored his wishes by placing one that I could afford (under $14) on my meager unemployed budget in my path. I was concerned about the here and now but God provided for future Christmas as well. Its artificial so I can use it over and over :)

Merry Christmas Eve!

Style: Black and White (TTO)

Dress, Sweater, Cuff and Boots: Thrifted

This is the second post in a row that Ive worn mostly black...Promise Im not depressed :) Lately the outfits Ive been wearing have consisted of clothes that arent post worthy. The kiddo (Micah) is out of school for winter break so we've been laying around the house relaxing.

The above outfit was thrown together last minute to make a quick run. Its actually the only "real clothes" Ive worn so far this week.

Happy Hump Day!

Style:No Flash No Frills

I just couldnt edit my little lady out :)

Dress, Belt and Clutch: Thrifted
Shoes: Rue 21

This is what I wore this weekend. I was asked to sing in our churches performance of The Messiah. I didnt want to do it but since my father in law is the minister of music I basically had no choice but to say yes (j/k). The attire was formal for the folks who were singing Handels Messiah but the dress code for the Soulful Messiah was a bit more relaxed. The only stipulation was that it needed to be below the knee. This made it possible for me to find something simple and pretty (with the help of my pal Nina) that I didnt feel needed any jewelry to punch it up. Nina found this dress for $5 hiding in plain sight. It always pays to thrift with a second pair of hands/eyes.

Anywho, the dress did its duty and I was comfortable. Not bad for a last minute find.  All in all it was a great 2 hours of singing and Im glad its over:)

How Was Your Weekend?

Style: Grey Lace

 Sweater, TShirt and Skirt: Thrifted
Shoes: Target
Necklace: Walmart

I thrifted this skirt a few months back from Goodwill...Im sure you recognize it since just about EVERY blogger had one last fall via Target. Well Im not usually the lacy kind but it was $1 and I cant seem to pass up a discounted piece of clothing sooooo here it is :)

BTW, I probably will turn this skirt into a clutch or something after today. Too short and clingy for my taste.

Happy HumpDay!!!

Style: TTO (Yep Even The Tights)

Shirt, Skirt, Jacket, Purse, Tights, Shoes: Thrifted!!!

Not sure why I have sooooooo many shots today, but here they are. Opaque tights have not made their way into my wardrobe in recent years but when I saw them for .50 at the Goodwill(still in the package via Target) I figured I would give them a go. Im not really sure how I feel about them but if my legs could talk im sure they would beg me to continue to wear them :)

I know Im quite late as far as trends go. I think they are cute when others wear them, but on me....well the jury is still out.

What do you think of opaque tights?

Style+DIY= Totally Thrifted Outfit (TTO)

I purchased this "schoolmarm"(thats what hubby calls dresses this length) dress on black friday for a buck. Since I had a free 30 minutes to myself the other day I was able to pull out the sewing machine and shorten the hem.

 Transformed!

I then layered it with another black friday find. This blazer was $3.

Add thrifted belt and Gap ballet flats. Both $1.00 each ...

Voila!

BTW if you wanna see other thrifters finds or just need someone to tell you that your need to thrift is normal, check out Shanas Blog. Shes an awesome enabler :)

How did you spend your free time this weekend?

Style: Early Presents

Shirt, Belt, Boots, Hat: Thrifted
Jeans: Banana Republic

These boots were so cute but I decided to bypass them because a friend of mine spotted and wanted them also while thrifting a while back. This week she gave the boots to me because when she tried to wear them they didnt fit her how she wanted them to. We decided they would be an early Christmas gift :)

Have a Great Weekend!
